In the town of Brotterode-Trusetal in Thuringia, around 1,000 jobs are lost: several companies leave within a short period of time.

In Thuringia, the third automotive supplier based in Brotterode-Trusetal has already announced its closure within a very short time – in addition to the companies Grammer and Marelli, now also BOS Plastics System. The plant management confirmed this to MDR on Wednesday. The production facility is currently located in the small town in the Schmalkalden-Meiningen district – but this will be relocated to another company location starting next year.

According to a statement from the company BOS – which specializes in the production of armrests and accessories for trunks – a “development in the global car market” was the reason for the change of location. The justification was not elaborated further.

Mayor is speechless

The mayor of Brotterode-Trusetal, Kay Goßmann (CDU), is speechless that the third company is now closing. Goßmann speaks of an “economic decline in his region on a broad front”. As head of administration, his resources are limited, as the MDR reports, and there is little he can do. Overall, Thuringia lost around 1,000 jobs due to the closure of three companies as well as a family education center and an adult education facility last year.

According to the automotive supplier BOS, socially acceptable solutions are being sought for the 80 employees who will lose their jobs due to the closure. According to the MDR, they were informed about the “end” by the factory management on Tuesday. Discussions about a reconciliation of interests and a social plan for employees should therefore begin shortly.
