Bundestag member Thomas Seitz announced on Sunday that he was leaving the AfD. He says, among other things, that he feels “disgust” for the party. He had belonged to the losing camp in an internal party power struggle.
Seitz has been in the AfD since 2013 and has been sitting in the Bundestag since 2017, in the current legislative period as the legal policy spokesman for his group. The 56-year-old lawyer is leaving the AfD effective this Sunday. He will remain a member of Parliament until the end of the 2025 electoral term, but from now on as an independent member without party affiliation. After publishing his resignation on Sunday, Seitz went to the diving station and informed his office that he would not be available to answer questions until mid-April.
