A recent American study showed that China is superior to the United States in creating specialized talent in the field of artificial intelligence, according to the New York Times.

According to the study conducted by the American Marco Polo Foundation, “China provides half of the researchers, experts, and scientists specializing in artificial intelligence sciences, while the United States provides only 18%.”

Thus, China has made a great leap in this field. It contributed to the creation of only a third of these specializations 3 years ago.

By contrast, the United States has remained mostly unchanged. The study indicated that the imbalance has emerged significantly during the last ten years.

Although large numbers of China’s top minds move to American universities to complete their doctorates and most remain in the United States, the study shows that this trend is beginning to change as well, with increasing numbers of Chinese researchers residing in China.

The study predicted that “what will happen in the coming years will be decisive as China and the United States compete for supremacy in the field of artificial intelligence, turning researchers into one of the most important geopolitical groups in the world.”

She pointed out that “the United States still outperforms China in the field of artificial intelligence related to the robotics industry by a very small percentage, and that a large part of the work that the United States has done in the field of the superhuman capabilities of chatbots has been accomplished by researchers who were educated in China.”

Chinese researchers working in the United States constitute 38%, while Americans constitute only 37%. What is considered a decline from what things were like 3 years ago, when the percentage of Americans was 31%; While talent coming from China constituted 27%, according to the study as well.

The study focused on the role of American political decision-makers in the reluctance of some Chinese researchers to remain in the United States. Due to successive accusations of some individuals of espionage.

The study concluded that the United States is declining in terms of hosting talent in general, as it currently hosts about 42% of the world’s best talent, compared to about 59% three years ago.
