Salvadoran waves continue to burst into the surf scene due to their world-class quality that resonates more strongly every day among professionals and fans of this sport, and people in love with the sea, the heat, the fun, and the exotic landscapes.

This boom led to three national beaches being highlighted among the best in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean for surfing, in a recent publication by the Spanish media El País.

These are El Tunco, El Sunzal and Las Flores, the first two belonging to the department of La Libertad and the third to San Miguel.

“These and other places on the Salvadoran Pacific coast are turning the country into a new mecca for board lovers, and a less touristy alternative to more well-trodden neighboring destinations, such as Costa Rica,” the publication mentions.

The journalistic article delves into the unique characteristics of the Salvadoran coast, its natural diversity, and the black color of its beaches that is striking for the average tourist, accustomed to the white sands of the Atlantic beaches.

Thus he mentions that, “El Tunco is currently the main tourist destination in El Salvador, with many waves and a great surfing and festive atmosphere, although it hardly has any sand on its shore because it is mainly a beach of rocks and stones.”

As for El Sunzal, he describes it as a beach with “one of the most consistent waves in El Salvador, as they break much of the year. It is a long, long wave where surfers of all levels tend to have fun. It is an ideal wave for longboarding,” explains El País.

Finally, when referring to Las Flores beach, it also highlights its “perfect waves” and the natural spectacle that involves observing a sunset from this part of the country.

“It is a remote and almost hidden sandy area, highly appreciated by surf lovers for its perfect waves. They also say that the one on Las Flores beach is one of the most beautiful sunsets that can be seen in the country,” highlights the European media.

This list of idyllic destinations for wave sports also includes: Guna Yala, in Panama; Trunk Bay, Virgin Islands; Kings Beach, in Barbados, Oaxaca Coast, in Mexico; Baja California, in Mexico; Paraíso, Sirena and Las Tumbas beaches, in Cuba.

Also from Mexico, the Spanish media highlights Icing Sugar Beaches on Holbox Island; Seven Mile Beach, in Jamaica; Biesanz, in Costa Rica; Sugar Beach, in Saint Lucia; Darkwood Beach, Antigua and Barbuda; Grande Anse d’Arlet, in Martinique; Pink Sands, in the Bahamas; Magazine Beach, in Granada; Tortuga and Flamenco Beaches, in Puerto Rico; and Santa Teresa, in Costa Rica.

The tourism minister reacted to the publication, and said that the recognition is the result of all the efforts that the country has made since 2019, through the Tourism Cabinet of the Government of President Nayib Bukele.
