Pyrros Dimas, Olympic champion and ND MEP candidate, was a guest on Ant1’s show on Monday night.
Pyrros Dimas talked about his marriage with Aphrodite Skafida and his children, while he also referred to his childhood and the difficulties he faced until he rose to the top as an Olympian. He characteristically emphasized during his interview, how he had to be baptized a second time when he came to Greecein order to have paper to prove it.
It is recalled that the top athlete is expecting his fifth child with the athlete. “We are expecting a baby girl, my crow. Speaking about his childhood, he mentioned the special relationship he has with his grandmother, who practically raised him. “I was born in 1971 in Himara. A country with a Hodja, a very closed regime, I lived in a house with my grandmother at the time. My parents were in Tirana with my older brother. I lived in Himara until I was six years old and then went to Tirana. We only spoke Greek. My grandmother baptized me in private because the church was closed because of Hoxha.
I was rebaptized a second time in Greece to have a paper to prove my baptism. Yannis Sgouros put oil on me and it went well. I grew up with difficulties but a lot of love. My grandmother was an entire University because she had lost her husband in the Greco-Italian war. She raised four children by herself“, he said characteristically.
“At one point I was going to school and I would find out that my brother was being beaten and I would go to get my revenge. At one point a coach saw me stealing a loquat and said “Do you want to lift weights?”. He saw something in me, probably my legs. Bouillard was a nice person, a good person and an educator. My father never came to my school since then because he knew that if I got below 8 I wouldn’t practice.
“I started reading because I was afraid it would take me out of training. We used to play football at school and at one point when I was 13 he told me that the two didn’t go together and I had to decide what I should do. And that’s when I made the decision to take up weightlifting!”, he continued.
Pyrros Dimas: “It is not easy when a child has lost his mother”
At the same time, he also referred to the reports that came to light shortly after his relationship with Aphrodite Skafida was made public, noting that “when the morning shows started and they said that my children were saddened by my marriage, I said that at the beginning of the relationship with on Aphrodite there was a difficulty with children, it was not easy when a child has lost its mother. I had said in an interview that when the children found out about my relationship with Aphrodite, they were sad. This is slowly passing. There are some things that need balance,” he concluded.
