U.S. Equities Close Lower as Technology and Healthcare Sectors Weigh Down Stocks – Market Recap

Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the , and , sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close of trading in New York, the index ended with a decrease of 1.00%, while the index fell by 0.72%, and the index weakened by 0.95%.

Among the leading stocks in the index today, the Dow (NYSE: ) stood out, which added 1.77% or 1.03 points to its value, and its price was 59.29 at the close of trading. Meanwhile, Walt Disney (NYSE: ) added 1.06% or 1.29 points to trade at 122.82, while Verizon Communications (NYSE: ) added 0.61% or 0.26 points to trade at 42.54 in late trade.

The worst performer was the share of United-Health Group (NYSE: ), which closed down 6.44% or 31.56 points, and traded at a price of 458.14 at the end of the trading day. Amgen (NASDAQ: ) declined 2.41% or 6.83 points to 276.21 and Nike (NYSE: ) declined 1.74% or 1.61 points to 90.95.

The best performers today in the S&P 500 were Phillips 66 (NYSE: ), which added 3.77% to 169.49, Marathon Petroleum (NYSE: ), which gained 3.41% to close at 211.38, and Valero Energy (NYSE: :), which increased by 2.65% and finished trading at a price of 177.22.

Among the weakest stocks today were Yumana (NYSE:), which fell 13.41% to end the trading day at 304.33, Norwegian Cruise Line (NYSE:), which lost 7.98% to 19.27 and CVS. Health (NYSE: ), which weakened by 7.21% and closed the trading day at 73.82.

The best performers today in the Nasdaq index were the shares of Vivo-Power International (NASDAQ:), which added 304.11% to its value at a price of 5.90, XTI Aerospace Inc (NASDAQ:)‎, which completed an increase of 69.90% and closed at a price of 3.50 and the share of HWH International Inc (NASDAQ: ) , which rose 62.96% to end trading at 1.54.

Among the weakest stocks today were Acorda Therapeutics (NASDAQ:), which fell by 81.44% and ended the trading day at 2.50, Greystone Oncology (NASDAQ:), which lost 48.94% to 1.20 and Yeld10 Bioscience (NASDAQ:) , which weakened by 42.57% and closed the trading day on the stock exchange at a price of 0.22.

The number of declining stocks exceeded the number of stocks that closed higher in trading on the New York Stock Exchange with 2099 versus 770 respectively, with 63 remaining unchanged; In trading on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2461 declined and 944 gained, while 87 held their value.

Shares of Valero Energy (NYSE: ) climbed to an all-time high, finishing up 2.65% or 4.58 points to trade at 177.22. The Dow (NYSE: ) climbed to a 52-week high and completed an increase of 1.77% or 1.03 points to trade at 59.29. The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: ) climbed to a 52-week high, adding 1.06% or 1.29 points to trade at 122.82. Verizon Communications (NYSE: ) climbed to a 52-week high, adding 0.61% or 0.26 points to trade at 42.54. Acorda Therapeutics (NASDAQ: ) fell to an all-time low, shedding 81.44% or 10.97 points to trade at 2.50.

Index, which measures the implied standard deviation of options on the S&P 500 index, traded up 7.03% and closed at a price of 14.61.

The gold futures contract for June delivery added 1.80% or 40.70 to settle at $2,297.80 an ounce. And more in commodity trading – crude oil futures for delivery in May completed an increase of 1.89% or 1.58 and reached a price of $85.29 per barrel, while the June contract for Brent oil futures registered an increase of 1.93% or 1.69 points, closing at a price of $89.11 per barrel.

The EUR/USD pair maintained stability – 0.22% and traded at a price of 1.08, while the USD/JPY pair completed a 0.03% decline and reached the level of 151.59.

The futures contracts on the US dollar index traded down 0.22% and settled at 104.53.
