Homeland Today: US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that his country is working to avoid the spread of the conflict, to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and the return of “detainees.”
He continued, “We seek to avoid escalation in the Middle East, and there are those who seek to expand the conflict.”
During a press conference with his French counterpart, Blinken expressed his condolences to the victims of the attack on World Central Kitchen workers in the Gaza Strip.
He called for a prompt and impartial investigation into the killing of International Kitchen workers in the Gaza Strip.
Blinken stressed, “Washington has a long-term commitment to Israel’s security and to helping it defend itself,” noting that “there are Israeli weapons requests dating back decades, and perhaps more, and supplying them with weapons takes years.”
The American minister claimed that Washington is doing its utmost to abide by the law regarding supplying weapons to the occupation, and is focusing on ensuring that what happened on October 7 is not repeated.
Blinken said, “The United States has repeatedly emphasized to Israel the moral and legal necessity of delivering aid to those in need.”
He pointed out that the aid entering Gaza is not sufficient to meet the needs of the population, and therefore it is necessary to increase aid and ensure that it reaches those in need, especially in the northern Gaza Strip.
Blinken added that the situation requires better coordination in the field regarding the mechanism for delivering aid to those in need in Gaza.
He stressed that the steps taken by Israel to bring aid into Gaza are insufficient, noting that a ceasefire, the delivery of aid, and the release of hostages are the best next steps.
