Vassilis Maggos: Criminal prosecutions against 6 police officers

by time news

The case of the death of Vassilis Mangos is taking a new turn, as by order of the Violation Investigator of Volos, prosecutions were brought against six policemen of the Police Directorate of Magnesia (four from OPKE and two from the Security Sub-Directorate).

“The solidarity of society from end to end throughout Greece gives us and our lawyers courage and strength. The fight continues”, says Vassilis Mangou’s father.

It is recalled that Vassilis Maggos, as had been reported, a month before his death, had been the victim of a savage beating by police officers in Volos, during a demonstration against the burning of garbage.

The accusations

According to the 26-year-old’s father, Yiannis Maggos, the 6 policemen are accused of the following crimes:

1) of torture by complicity and serially

2) dangerous bodily harm by complicity and serially

3) of the report against co-authorship and

4) illegal detention by complicity.

(The serial category is for the first four).

As stated in the Order, there are serious indications of the defendants’ guilt for the acts they are accused of, the first of which is of a criminal nature, and in order to prevent the risk of committing new crimes and to ensure their appearance in the Court’s audience, restrictive measures were imposed against them terms namely:

1) ban on leaving Greece and

2) the provision on their part of a guarantee of a certain amount of money.

“The solidarity of society from end to end throughout Greece gives us and our lawyers courage and strength. The fight continues”, says Vassilis Mangou’s father.
