The United States announced that it did not participate in the Israeli bombing of the Iranian embassy compound in Damascus.

According to Reuters, White House National Security spokesman John Kirby said: “Let me make it clear, we have nothing to do with the attack in Damascus, and we did not participate in any way.”

He added: “Iranian accusations against Washington of responsibility for the bombing are nonsense, and we will respond to any retaliatory attacks.”

Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said: “Israel did not provide any advance warning regarding the strike on the Iranian mission headquarters in the Syrian capital,” adding: “The Israelis did not notify us of their raid or its intended target in Damascus.”

In turn, Robert Wood, Deputy US Ambassador to the United Nations, said: “We will not hesitate to defend our military personnel and repeat our previous warnings to Iran and its agents not to exploit the situation again, an attack in which we had no role or advanced knowledge to resume their attacks on American military personnel.”

Wood added: “Any confirmed attack on buildings that are actually a diplomatic facility would be a source of concern to the United States.” Diplomatic missions and their buildings, as well as official diplomatic residences, must be protected, especially in times of armed conflict.”

Meanwhile, two officials who declined to reveal their identities told Reuters: “Israel told the United States shortly before the attack that it would carry out an operation in Syria, but it used vague language that did not specify a target.”

It is noteworthy that in response to American support for Israel, Iraqi armed factions targeted American military bases in Iraq, Syria and Jordan, but these attacks have stopped since early February, and Washington fears their renewal after the recent Israeli bombing of the Iranian embassy compound in Damascus.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced the day before yesterday that the two generals, advisors, Mohammad Reza Zahedi and Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, and five of their comrades, were killed in the Israeli bombing of the Iranian consulate in Damascus.
