The CSTO considers its area of responsibility in Armenia to be its sovereign territory within the settled state borders, which is possible only after the borders between Armenia and its neighbors have been agreed upon.

As Day.Az reports on Monday, this is stated in the organization’s statement.

Earlier, Nikol Pashinyan demanded that the organization clarify this issue, otherwise Yerevan will leave the CSTO.

The Organization noted that the wording on the area of responsibility is quite complex, and it is more intended to draw attention to the situation in the republic than to obtain a substantive answer.

“In accordance with the 2010 agreement on the principles of interaction, which was signed by the CSTO, the zone of responsibility is the sovereign territory of the member states. The CSTO zone of responsibility ends where the state border passes, which is settled on a bilateral basis between Armenia and its neighbors,” they said In the organisation.

Thus, the CSTO is, in fact, pushing Armenia towards border delimitation. Otherwise, the CSTO will not be able to guarantee the fulfillment of its obligations. And this is absolutely logical, because otherwise the organization will violate international agreements.
