Almost every inch of land in the territories of Azerbaijan liberated from Armenian occupation is filled with landmines.
As Day.Az reports on Thursday, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan – Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev wrote about this on his page on the social network X.
“In the photograph provided by the Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan for Mine Action (ANAMA), yellow indicators indicate landmines that require neutralization,” the publication says.
It should be noted that in March, 299 anti-personnel mines, 114 anti-tank mines and 1,254 unexploded ordnance were discovered in Terter, Agder, Kalbajar, Agdam, Khojaly, Khankendi, Lachin, Fizuli, Shusha, Khojavend, Jebrail, Gubadli and Zangilan.
To date, 6,094.6 hectares have been cleared of mines and unexploded ordnance.
Since the end of the Second Karabakh War in 2020, a total of 350 Azerbaijani citizens have been affected by mines.
