The Angels – The US actor and comedian Joe Flaherty is dead. He died on Monday at the age of 82 after a short illness, his daughter confirmed to the industry publication “Variety” and other media on Tuesday (local time).

Flaherty became known through comedy series

The Pittsburgh-born artist began his career in the theater group “The Second City” in Chicago. He became famous with the Canadian comedy series “Second City Television” (SCTV), which ran between 1976 and 1984 and won two Emmys. There he appeared alongside John Candy, Martin Short and Catherine O’Hara, among others.

He also starred in the short-lived NBC series “Freaks and Geeks” (1999). Flaherty was also seen in films such as “Back to the Future II” and “Happy Gilmore” and the series “Police Academy”.

Short praised his colleague and friend as a “wise and funny” person in a statement to Variety. Adam Sandler wrote on Instagram: “A genius of a comedian. And a real treasure. A perfect combination.”
