Manila: The base for deploying BrahMos missiles is ready in the Philippines. In such a situation, it is expected that soon the first consignment of BrahMos missiles from India will be sent to the Philippines. This delivery was originally expected to be completed by the end of 2023, but was postponed at the request of the Philippines. The Philippines signed a $375 million deal with India two years ago to equip its navy with BrahMos missiles. Under this agreement, Philippines was to get three batteries of BrahMos. Philippines is going to deploy these missiles facing China.

BrahMos was to be delivered by March

Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) chief Sameer V Kamat had said earlier this year that the delivery of BrahMos missiles to the Philippines would begin in late March. Initially, a plan was made to deliver the ground system of BrahMos to the Philippines. After this the delivery of missiles was about to begin. This is the first export order for the BrahMos missile developed by India and Russia. Apart from this, many countries are also eyeing the BrahMos missile. Most of these countries are from East Asia.

How will BrahMos increase the strength of Philippines?

BrahMos is among the most dangerous missiles in the world. China does not have the capability of this missile. No country has the air defense system to intercept BrahMos. This is the only missile in the world which can be fired from mobile launchers on the ground, fighter planes in the air, warships in the water and submarines under water. BrahMos provides very little time for adversaries to react by maintaining a speed of Mach 3 at all times throughout its trajectory i.e. flight. In such a situation, China will never dare to come in front of this missile.

What kind of enmity does the Philippines have with China?

The Philippines, situated on the banks of the South China Sea, is currently a sore spot in China’s eyes. China claims a small island named Second Thomas Shoal located in the South China Sea. China says the island is part of the Spratly Islands. However, the Philippines has occupied this island and has also deployed some of its soldiers on it by trapping an old ship here. Whenever the Philippines tries to deliver supplies to the island, Chinese coast guard ships block their way. Chinese ships have repeatedly fired water cannons and rammed Philippine ships. In such a situation, the Philippines is also increasing its strength to cause huge damage to China’s huge military power.
