Busan Swimming Jeong Yeon-wook and Jang Ye-chan each “resign”
Suyeong-gu in Busan is known as a ‘conservative garden’ where all conservative party candidates have been elected since the constituency was newly established in 1995. It is a place with strong conservative support, so much so that it is called the ‘Gangnam’ of Busan. In this general election, candidate Jang Ye-chan, whose nomination for the People Power Party was canceled due to controversy over harsh language, including the ‘orgy’ comment, is pushing ahead with running as an independent candidate, resulting in a three-way battle between People Power Party candidate Jeong Yeon-wook and Democratic Party candidate Yoo Dong-cheol.
Candidate Jang’s nomination was canceled on the 16th after controversy arose after it was revealed that he had written an article on social networking services (SNS) in 2014 to the effect that “even if you enjoy orgies, you must be respected if you have professionalism and responsibility to create a healthy society.” Even though People Power Party Emergency Response Committee Chairman Han Dong-hoon stated that he would “not return to the party,” Candidate Jang left the party and ran for office. According to the Public Official Election Act, a candidate who participated in a primary but lost cannot run for the relevant constituency, but since there are no regulations for candidates who won a primary, candidate Jang ran as an independent candidate. Candidate Do Tae-woo, whose nomination for the People Power Party was canceled, also pressed ahead with running for the Daegu Central-South constituency.
As a result of the Suyeong-gu public opinion poll (100% wireless automatic response) conducted on the 1st and 2nd by the Korea Social Opinion Research Institute at the request of Busan Ilbo and Busan MBC, Candidate Yoo was 35.8%, Candidate Jeong 31.1%, and Candidate Jang 28.2%, with a margin of error (±4.4%) ) (for other details, refer to the website of the National Election Opinion Survey Deliberation Committee).

Advance voting papers are printed and issued on-site, but candidates must resign one day before the start of voting (5 days) for the resignation to be reflected on the ballot.
