Islamabad: US President Joe Biden, who distanced himself from Imran Khan, has written a letter to Shahbaz Sharif if he becomes the Prime Minister, promising to work together and strengthen friendship. Biden has written this letter when the media around the world is raising questions on the fairness of Pakistani elections. Imran Khan alleges that Shahbaz Sharif has been ‘selected’ with the help of the army. On one hand, the Biden government is increasing relations with the Pakistani PM, while on the other hand, it is attacking India on many issues including CAA, Kejriwal arrest before the Lok Sabha elections. Experts have strongly criticized this double character of the Biden government and advised India to remain cautious.

Renowned defense expert Brahma Chellani says on X that Biden has not only embraced Pakistan’s military-backed government but has also pledged to strengthen relations with it. Pakistan is a country which is called a stronghold of terrorism. America is continuously helping Pakistan and is also providing technical help in modernizing its F-16 fighter jet so that it becomes more lethal against India. Experts say that if America again decides to give arms to Pakistan, India will definitely oppose it.

America is openly helping Pakistan

In fact, the letter sent by the US President to Shehbaz Sharif on March 29 has generated a lot of interest. Earlier, Pakistan was not among Biden’s priorities. Biden did not talk to former Prime Ministers Imran Khan and Shahbaz Sharif during his first term. Bain was angry at Pakistan for supporting Taliban in Afghanistan. Now, in his letter, Biden has expressed interest in renewing the ‘partnership’ with Pakistan to address the most pressing ‘global and regional challenges’. However, Biden did not mention Kashmir or Afghanistan in the letter sent to Shahbaz Sharif.

America had recently helped Pakistan in getting a loan from IMF. At the same time, experts say that America is not happy with India’s ongoing relations with Russia including import of crude oil and purchase of arms. However, in a broader context, leaving aside the issue of Khalistanis and human rights, India’s relations with America are much stronger. It is unlikely that the US will take any of these steps at the present time, as it still needs India’s assistance in its current rivalry with China. Since the US is a source of foreign investment, trade, technologies and significant military aid, India wants to maintain close ties with the US in the long term.

America’s friendship with India will remain intact

Experts say India has proven itself a useful partner for the US by providing vital support to global shipping with its anti-piracy patrols in international waters close to the Red Sea. India and the US also have interests in curbing the growth of Chinese influence in the Indo-Pacific, West Asia, Africa and Latin America. He said that this is a very important relationship which both sides will maintain despite occasional differences.
