The housing crisis continues to be the main concern for Luxembourg residents, who face great difficulties when buying or renting a house, either due to a lack of properties — the recent construction crisis has exacerbated this problem — or due to the prices practiced in recent years. years.

To mitigate the effects of this situation, the Luxembourg Government decided to allocate 364 million euros from its State Budget to housing, an amount that exceeds by just over 80 million the amount made available for this area in the previous year, according to a statement from the Commission Housing and Spatial Planning.

Within the foreseen budget, the portions dedicated to the special fund for affordable housing and individual housing subsidies stand out. The first was raised to 227 million euros, 35 million more compared to 2023, and the second will have around 20 million euros more compared to the previous year.

Asked by an opposition deputy about the purpose of these actions, the Minister of Housing said, in the Commission, that information sessions will be held on the law on affordable housing of 2023 and on the support available.

Claude Meisch highlighted that, “currently, only a limited number of eligible people benefit from this support”. Furthermore, the government official said that the possibility of organizing this aid “in a more systematic way” is being studied.
