In response to accusations from the US Department of Justice of monopolizing the market, Apple confirmed that it was considering the possibility of integrating its Watch smartwatches with smartphones based on Android from Google. These plans were rejected due to technical limitations that would not have allowed all the functions of the device to be fully implemented, the 9to5Mac portal reports, Day.Az reports with reference to Gazeta.ru.
It turned out that for three years Apple explored the possibility of “making friends” with Android on its watches, but ultimately came to the conclusion that existing restrictions made such compatibility impossible. This was also previously reported by other sources, including Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman. However, Apple Watch, since the first models that came out in early 2015, can only work when connected to iPhone smartphones.
According to the Justice Department, this results in additional costs for Android users who are forced to purchase new watches that are compatible with their smartphones, which they say is a form of abuse of market dominance by Apple.
