“On the eve of the celebration of the 64th anniversary of Senegal’s independence, the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, spoke this Wednesday evening from the Palace of the Republic.

In his first speech to the nation, His Excellency, President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, shared his vision for a promising future for Senegal, while paying tribute to the country’s emblematic historical figures.

During his speech, President Faye announced his resignation from the post of secretary general of the PASTEF-Les Patriotes party, to be above the fray and to dedicate himself fully to his mission of building a flourishing and just Senegal for all. The Supreme Chief of the Armed Forces reaffirmed his commitment to public management with integrity, focused on ethical responsibility and the duty of transparency, essential pillars to guarantee the clarity and integrity of government institutions.

In recognition of national heroes, President Faye paid emotional tribute to the courageous activists who fought colonialism to protect Senegalese freedoms and cultural values. The Head of State also expressed his gratitude and esteem for the veterans who gave their youth and their lives for the independence of the country.

The President of the Republic also expressed his gratitude to his predecessors, Presidents Senghor, Diouf, Wade, and Sall, saluting their role in national construction.
