ZAMORA. In the rooms

First of all the folber, which is also a nice way between epic and Lombard to indicate football, coined not for nothing by the archmate Gianni Brera. Thirty-year-old Walter Vismara, educated in numbers and an accountant at heart, knows little about football, the derby, or MilanInter. a Mr. precisetti, a mother’s boy and shy. In the little factory in Vigevano a sort of child prodigy: Walter sits at the desk like cheese on macaroni. But the boss, a friend of dad’s, has decided to sell: not because he is in crisis, but rather to go and enjoy it in the sun with his shrewish and tyrannical wife. So he recommends the good young man to the model company of Cavaliere Tosetto, in the Milan of cumenda, bauscia and dan. This is a big family: God, Tosetto, the seals. And the folber. Then, the fateful question: Vismara, what role do you play?
In the company, one’s career is a reflection of the weekly challenges on the field with training, teasing and small treachery. Walter must survive and pretends to be a goalkeeper. But for the folber just denied: the first tests are disastrous. So much so that everyone in the company, to make fun of him, calls him Zamora after the great Spanish goalkeeper for Real and Barcelona of the 1930s. The big boy then asks for lessons from a certain Giorgio Cavazzoni, former Milan number one who ended up in disgrace due to a hostess and gambling: his wife has left and his son no longer wants to see him.
An understanding is struck between the two that is a race for redemption. In the meantime, Vismara falls in love with her secretary Ada and with her one beautiful Saturday afternoon goes to the cinema to see Juliet of the Spirits. The two are romantic, they like each other without understanding each other, they seem made for each other. Instead, another disappointment: Walter is misunderstanding, he believes (very wrongly) that Ada has an understanding with her bold colleague. The end of a kind and desirable love, while the training sessions at the Arena under the eyes of the old coach Marino Bartoletti are increasingly tougher. Walter’s sister, separated in fact, indulges in an escapade with the redeemed Cavazzoni and, after the fact, warns that big-headed Walter: All it takes is one disappointment and you shut yourself up: you’re presumptuous, Walter.
The young man, along the way, learns to throw himself, to dare, to land on his feet. The final challenge is a success: the hateful colleague has to swallow the defeat, Ada jumps for joy in the stands, and there is even someone who promises the new champion a semi-professional future. The merit of Zamora, Neri Marcor‘s debut behind the camera, is to evoke, on the model of There’s Still Tomorrow by Paola Cortellesi, a distant, friendly and plump world: the Milan of the economic boom, of the inside-out palts, of the trattorias and of trani a gog, ragiunatt, pasta on Sundays, cordial and pasta dishes that would resurrect a dead person. The matrix is the beautiful novel by Roberto Perrone, historical author of the Corriere della Sera (HarperCollins). Marcor reserves the role of the disillusioned Cavazzoni, Alberto Paradossi, 34 years old, coming from the TV series Studio Battaglia and the New York stand up comedy, with an excellent attitude for the accountant Vismara. The cast also includes Marta Gastini, Anna Ferraioli Ravel, Giacomo Poretti, Giovanni Storti, Antonio Catania, Ale and Franz.
Paradossi says: Meeting Marcor was like meeting a relative. I’m from the generation that grew up with The Eighth Dwarf. Neri insisted: we must think of an Antonioni film in terms of comedy. Walter actually had to be him, Marcor, but twenty years ago. The film, partly shot in Turin, talks about the sense of responsibility, the relationship between fathers and sons: the portrait of proud men, Vismara and Cavazzoni, who make mistakes because they give in to fear.
