Martin Nečas helped the Carolina hockey players win 4:2 over Washington with his 24th goal of the season in the NHL and was named the third star of the match.
With Karl Vejmelka in goal, Arizona put six goals on Vegas from the 49th minute, turning the score from 1:4 to the final 7:4. Tomáš Hertl has not yet started for the losers.
Lukáš Dostál did not prevent Anaheim’s 1:3 loss to Seattle with 24 saves.
Washington led after the opening period by two goals on goals by Alexander Ovechkin, who has 851 goals in the all-time scoring table. In the middle part, Jake Guentzel cut down and the Czech striker equalized at 51:40. Nečas fired in a power play from the left circle without preparation and his shot went into the goal from the left post.
In the penultimate minute, Sebastian Aho completed the turnaround, taking advantage of another numerical advantage for Carolina. Guentzel, the game’s first star, sealed the win.
Alexander Kerfoot put Arizona in the lead in the 27th minute, but the Vegas hockey players made it 4:1 in the second period. Vejmelka was beaten by Jack Eichel from the point guard, and William Karlsson, Anthony Mantha and Chandler Stephenson added three more hits from the renumbering.
The Coyotes countered in the third period, scoring three goals in 67 seconds to tie the game. Josh Doan, Nick Bjugstad and Michael Carcone scored in quick succession to break the tie in the 55th minute. Josh Brown and Logan Cooley secured the win.
Dostál conceded all three goals between the 16th and 32nd minutes. He was crossed twice by Shane Wright to open the scoring. On the second shot, he went down in front of the goal on a pass from the back guard and promptly made it 2:0.
Wright also added to the statistics as an assist when his pass bounced off the skate of Matty Beniers behind Dostal. The result was only corrected by Leo Carlsson.
