Bengaluru: Talking about gems and jewellery, till now Mumbai has been ahead in it. Now Surat and some other cities of Gujarat are emerging as Gem and Jewelery hub. Now it will expand to the South Indian state of Karnataka also. An MoU has been signed between Gem & Jewelery Export Promotion Council and Bengaluru Jewelers Association to set up a jewelery park in Karnataka. This signing took place during the ongoing India International Jewelery Show in Bengaluru.
What is India International Jewelery Show
For the rapid development of gems and jewelery sector and maximum export of gems and jewelery from the country, the Central Government has constituted the Gem and Jewelery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC). It works under the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry. It has organized the second edition of ‘IIJS Tritiya’, the India International Jewelery Show, at the Bengaluru International Exhibition Center (BIEEC), Bengaluru from April 5 to 8, 2024. India Gem and Jewelery Machinery Expo (IGJME) has been organized for the first time along with IIJS Tritiya. In which world class technology showcasing tools and techniques related to digital technology has been showcased.
What is the purpose of IIJS Tritiya?
The main objective of IIJS Tritiya is to showcase the wide range of gold jewelery collection, which reflects the rich heritage and craftsmanship of India’s jewelery industry. It is an extraordinary platform that brings together renowned jewelery manufacturers, retailers, wholesalers and industry professionals under one roof.
Six shows under Brilliant India
According to GJEPC President Vipul Shah, the theme ‘Brilliant India’ has been chosen for the next six Indian International Jewelery Shows (IIJS). The Brilliant India theme aims to rediscover and celebrate the country’s rich traditions and cultural diversity along with new technology that has helped create some of the finest and most extraordinary creations. It also helps bring out the magic of India’s rich heritage, the beauty of our craftsmanship and the warmth of our people.
Karnataka government was also present in IIJS Tritiya.
IIJS Tritiya was welcomed as the ‘Gateway to Global Gems and Jewelery Exports’ by the distinguished dignitaries during the inauguration of this jewelery show. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Dr. Selvakumar (IAS), Principal Secretary, Industries and Commerce Department, Government of Karnataka, B. Govindan, Chairman, Bhima Jewellery, Vinod Hayagreeva, MD and Director, C. Krishnaiya Chetty Group, Vipul Shah, Chairman, GJEPC, President, Jewelers Association Bengaluru. Chetan Kumar Mehta and other dignitaries were present.
Karnataka Jewelery Park will be built
GJEPC Chairman Vipul Shah and Jewelers Association Bengaluru President Chetan Kumar Mehta signed an MoU on the occasion. Under this, efforts will be made to promote gems and jewelery exports from the state through a series of initiatives to be launched by GJEPC, including the Karnataka Jewelery Park. It is noteworthy that this year’s IIJS Tritiya is bigger, smarter and better than last year, with over 900 exhibitors and 1,900 stalls spread across 40,000 square metres. It serves as a vast marketplace, providing significant opportunities for players in the industry to connect, collaborate and thrive. It includes over 15,000 pre-registered delegates from over 500 cities in India and 60 countries.
Exports are worth 3046.84 million dollars
According to the data of Gems and Jewelery Export Promotion Council, the export of gems and jewelery in February this year was worth 3046.84 million dollars (Rs 25274.640 crore), which is 12.66 percent less as compared to the same month a year ago. Last year, in the same month, gems and jewelery worth $3488.51 million were exported. However, there was an increase of 16.43 percent in the export of gold jewelery in the same month. Last February, the export of gold jewelery was worth 821.55 million dollars.
