We are looking for companies that will build new S-Bahn trains for two thirds of the route network and operate them for 15 years on behalf of the State of Berlin. In 2020, the Senate launched the largest procurement procedure for local transport to date, with orders for a total of eight billion euros awaiting completion. Now critics have reiterated their call for a demolition. “The tender for the S-Bahn must be stopped,” said Jorinde Schulz from the action alliance “One S-Bahn for everyone” during a discussion at the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation. “You need courage for that” – but it is legally possible. After years of wasted time, the municipalization of the S-Bahn should finally be tackled, says Schulz.
