A memorandum of cooperation for the creation of a Support Structure for the Research and Innovation Ecosystem in the Region of Epirus was signed by the governor of Epirus, Alexandros. Kahrimanis and the rector of the University of Ioannina Anna Batistatou, in the presence of the director of the Biomedical Research Institute of the ITE Savvas Christoforidis.
The aim of the Structure is to support the innovative businesses and the research community of Epirus, as well as the interconnection between them. In particular, the cooperation of the involved bodies aims to:
In the transfer of technology and the utilization of new knowledge in the development of research, produced at the University of Ioannina and the ITE-IBE, and their utilization by the industry and businesses of Epirus.
In the development of cooperation of the staff of the University of ITE-IBE with the PRAXI network, in order to develop a fully mature technology transfer and technology support office.
The Support Structure, in order to be directly accessible to both businesses and the research community of Epirus, will consist of the Entrepreneurship Support Office, which will be located in the Region’s headquarters, and the Research Community Support Office, which will is located in a building of the University of Ioannina.
In his statements, the regional governor emphasized that this specific action gives new possibilities to the place. “It is a big deal to collaborate on these issues with the University of Ioannina and the ITE. It marks a major change of course in the development of this place, which has many possibilities”, he underlined.
For her part, the rector of the University of Ioannina noted: “The Research and Innovation Support Office is one of the strategic goals of our Foundation, and it is really very important to help all members of the academic community to get in touch with businesses. And we rely on this Office really, to be able to develop entrepreneurship and innovation in the way that the University can, and connect with society and business. We will have an office within the University, which will be easily accessible to all members of the university community and beyond. We are very grateful to ITE and the Region for this partnership.”
From the ITE side, the director of the Institute of Biomedical Research stated that he was very proud, as it is the first time in Greece, that an academic institution, a research body and a Region cooperate to transfer the knowledge produced in the research laboratories to companies and to support the production of new products, new services that will support the local economy.
The schedule for the sports facilities follows
During the meeting, the governor of Epirus and the rector of the University discussed the conclusion of a program contract between the two entities for the maintenance, upgrading and operation of the Indoor Gymnasium and the football field, located within the University Campus. As it was emphasized, after the required interventions, the facilities will be put to use not only for the members of the University, but also for the public, being another reason for connecting the University with the city of Ioannina.
