Representatives of the public of Agdaban and Azerbaijani NGOs addressed the international community with an open letter.
As Day.Az reports, the letter says:
“We are civilians of Azerbaijan who were subjected to genocide by Armenian military forces on April 7-8, 1992 in the village of Agdaban Kalbajara, living witnesses of massacres, people who lost their family members, relatives, their homes during this event, and representatives of civil society of Azerbaijan, Addressing you with an open letter, we demand justice!
After the Khojaly genocide, during the massacre carried out by Armenia against the civilian population in the village of Agdaban Kalbajar on the night of April 7-8, 1992, more than 130 houses were burned and 779 village residents were killed. During the tragedy, 32 people were brutally killed, 8 old people, 2 young children and 7 women were burned alive. Two people were missing, five people were taken hostage.
During the tragedy, manuscripts and collections of prominent representatives of Azerbaijani ashug creativity, Ashug Shamshir, and his father, the poet from Agdaban Gurban, were destroyed, and Ashug Shamshir’s grandson was burned alive.
Today we are in our native land – Agdaban. We are addressing you from a village that was completely destroyed by Armenia during the occupation. Here, the grave of Ashug Shamshir was destroyed, other graves in the village cemetery, and the cemeteries were mined. During the occupation, Armenia destroyed mosques in Azerbaijani territories, kept pigs and other livestock in them, and destroyed dozens of mosques. This is an act of vandalism that does not fit into the framework of any religion or morality.
Today, dozens of mass graves are discovered in the liberated territories, resulting from acts of genocide and crimes committed in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.
The arming of Armenia by France and the European Union under the pretext of the European peace mechanism, as well as all kinds of support for the revival of revanchism, makes us angry. We reject these actions, approaches to the issue of territorial integrity with double standards, we consider these steps to be actions against the people and state of Azerbaijan!
We know very well that the Agdaban genocide, as well as the genocides committed in Khojaly, Mesheli, Gushchular, Malybeyli, Garadaghly, Ballygay, Bashlybele, were committed in order to undermine the resolve of our people, who stood up to defend their native land during the aggression of the Armenian armed forces against Azerbaijan, break their will in the struggle and carry out ethnic cleansing.
The past period, the 44-day war of 2020, the anti-terrorist operation of September 19-20, 2023, also showed that all this could not break the strong will of the Azerbaijani people.
We, representatives of the Agdaban community and civil society of Azerbaijan, are proud of the victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief, President Ilham Aliyev. As a result of his decisive policies and wise leadership, Azerbaijan independently implemented UN resolutions, the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the republic were fully ensured, and the Azerbaijani people realized their most cherished dream. We fully support and welcome the policy of President Ilham Aliyev!”
