The play “Arshin Mal Alan” by the Baku Puppet Theater was a success at the Les Salons theater in Geneva.
According to Day.Az, the organizer of the show is the Heritage Association, a dedicated custodian of the cultural heritage of Azerbaijan, whose main goal is to popularize this heritage in Europe and Switzerland.
More than a year ago, representatives of the association decided to bring the Baku Puppet Theater to Geneva and introduce Swiss audiences to the rich historical, musical and theatrical heritage of Azerbaijan. “Arshin Mal Alan” is a pearl of Azerbaijani national art, created by the famous playwright and composer Uzeyir Hajibeyli. Adapted by the Baku Puppet Theatre, brought to life by the creative genius of the theater’s creator and artistic director, Honored Artist Tarlan Gorchu, adds a whimsical and innovative dimension to Hajibeyli’s timeless masterpiece and breathes new life into it through the fascinating art of puppeteering.
In the process of preparing the theater for tour, representatives of the Heritage Association were so inspired by the art of puppets and how cultural heritage is skillfully conveyed through the movements of wooden, but at the same time very live puppets, that they decided to please the audience with the presence of puppets from the second performance of the theater – Leili and Majnun . Thus, last weekend, visitors to the Les Salons theater were completely immersed in the creative heritage of the great Uzeyir Hajibeyli. First – at the exhibition of decorations and puppets “Leyli and Majnun”, on the creation of which a large international team of woodcarvers, mechanics, artists who paint and decorate dolls, costume and scenery decorators from Azerbaijan, Georgia and the Baltic countries worked. Later – at a performance in the ancient hall of the Les Salons theater, where they were transported to Baku at the beginning of the 20th century, into the story of two young people Asker and Gulchohra, who are in search of sincere love.
“We are proud that we were able to attract so much attention to the rich and diverse culture of Azerbaijan. It was a great experience that will leave an indelible impression in the hearts of our audience,” the theater notes.
The Heritage Association, whose activities are based on the belief that culture is the heartbeat of a nation, strives to contribute to a deep understanding of the artistic, literary, musical and culinary treasures of Azerbaijan. The goal of the association is to create an environment for demonstrating, disseminating and preserving the creative heritage of Azerbaijan.
