“Since the composition of the criminal offense was not established, the pre-trial investigation was refused,” Reda Zarauskienė, the representative of Kaunas County Chief Police Commissariat, told Elta.

ELTA reminds that on March 25, after finding a woman with a baby in an abandoned house on Tunelis Street, the police collected material and determined the circumstances.

The mother and her newborn were admitted to the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic of Kaunas Clinics, their condition was stable, their lives were not in danger.

The Kaunas clinic informed Eltas that the baby and his mother have already been discharged from the institution and are no longer being treated.

Child rights protection specialists promise to provide assistance to mother and child.

“In the near future, we hope to receive medical conclusions and we will make a decision on where it would be safest for the child to continue growing, what kind of help the young mother would have to ensure the ability to properly care for the child.” We will initiate this assistance. In the first days of a baby’s life, the presence of the mother is extremely important, so we are making every effort to ensure that the mother receives all the help she needs at the moment and that she can take care of the baby”, says the representative of the State Child Rights Protection and Adoption Service, Alina Žilinaitė, in her reply to Elta.

The authorities found out about the mother and the baby when, while driving on Tunnel Street, police officers saw people waving at them. Tunnel Street is closer to the city center, close to the city’s bus and train station.

“The situation is not everyday and the call is not everyday. As it turned out, they were waving to report a sighting of a woman who may have given birth to a newborn. This is how the officials were informed this time, the information reached us. The doctors and representatives of the child rights service were informed about the situation”, police representative Odeta Vaitkevičienė told Eltai.

The woman who gave birth to a newborn was registered in Vilnius county.
