New Delhi: Political turmoil is intensifying regarding the Lok Sabha elections. The series of attacks and counter-attacks continues between BJP and Congress. In the same sequence, BJP said on Sunday that after party president Mallikarjun Kharge’s remarks regarding the abolition of Article 370, Congress has lost the moral right to remain a political party. A day after Kharge took a jibe at the BJP for abrogating most of the provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution, which gave special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, the ruling party at the Center intensified its attacks on the Congress.

BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi alleged, ‘Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said in Rajasthan that what difference does the removal of Article 370 make? If any party says that the integration of Kashmir makes no difference to it in other states then it is clear that you (Congress) have no respect for the oath taken by everyone for the unity and integrity of the country. The BJP leader alleged that after Kharge’s comments on Article 370, Congress, ‘which has almost lost the status or authority of a national party, has now lost the right to be a political party from a moral point of view’. He said that Congress can now call itself a ‘group of regional powers’.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday had targeted the Congress, terming Kharge’s remarks as ‘shameful’. He also reminded the Congress that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India and every state and citizen has rights over it, just as the people of Jammu and Kashmir have rights over the rest of the country. Shah and other Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, including party president JP Nadda, shared a clip of Kharge’s speech on ‘X’, in which he targeted the ruling party for talking about the removal of Article 370 in Rajasthan. Can be heard while practicing. In the clip, Kharge is heard saying, ‘Hey brother, what does (this) have to do with the people here?’ The Congress chief also wrongly mentioned Article 371 instead of Article 370. Article 370, which gave special rights to Jammu and Kashmir, was abrogated by the BJP-led central government in August 2019.
