The National Civil Police (PNC) has announced the arrest of a high-profile gang member, accused of a violent murder in the municipality of Chalchuapa, Santa Ana, which occurred in 2016.
The individual, identified as Moisés Antonio Chávez Figueroa, alias “Mollejón”, had fled to the United States to evade Salvadoran justice.
Chávez Figueroa is accused of being the intellectual author of the murder with a firearm of a drug trafficker in Chalchuapa. In addition to this crime, he has an extensive criminal record that includes aggravated homicide, aggravated extortion, membership in terrorist organizations and aggravated robbery.
The arrest of Chávez Figueroa represents an important blow against organized crime in the country and demonstrates the effectiveness of international collaboration in the fight against crime.
