EBS’ representative social contribution program that supports neighbors in need by collecting donations of 3,000 won per currency. <나눔 0700>. The 708th episode of ‘Autistic Painter, Se-won’s Dream’, which airs on EBS 1TV at 11:25 a.m. on the 6th (Saturday), tells the story of Se-won, who does not give up his dream of becoming an artist despite suffering from multiple diseases.
Sewon, whose only happiness is drawing
“I was later than the other kids. She barely spoke, but she turned her arms sideways, made dots, and started talking like a fish. “She draws and talks.” – mom
Sewon, who was diagnosed with autism at the age of five, showed a particular interest in drawing from an early age. Even though he can’t speak, Se-won draws things in his sketchbook with colored pencils all day long. Se-won was so talented that when she was in her third year of middle school, her mother, Song Hyeon, began teaching her how to draw. Sewon loves drawing so much that he forgets about break time, even during the drawing class held twice a week at the day activity center for the disabled. Once a month, Se-won is the happiest and most excited when she goes to an art store holding her mother’s hand and buys art materials. Although he suffers from autism, Se-won’s talent for drawing is enhanced by his hard work. Since last year, Se-won has been winning art contests held by various organizations, and is now pursuing his dream of becoming an artist.
“What about Sewon’s painting? Sewon expresses ordinary subjects very well with his own pure perspective. “That’s very attractive.” – Art teacher
“If you look at Sewon’s paintings, he is always smiling when he draws people. And I draw a lot of family pictures. There are a lot of happy pictures. “I was grateful that I was able to draw such a bright picture in such a difficult time.” – Mom
Epilepsy, Crohn’s disease, and other complex diseases… A mother who blames heaven.
“I have a lot of pain and I also suffer from epilepsy, so if I fall from my chair again, I’ll be in big trouble. “I think I stay by your side because I’m worried that you might get sick.” – Mom
“Because I have autism, managing my illness was very difficult. Since I can’t express myself, it’s better for me to be in pain. There are times when I really feel angry at heaven. “Why did they give me so many diseases? Autism is hard too” – Mom
Sewon experienced a seizure and was seriously injured due to epilepsy he developed in high school. So her mother, Song Hyeon, always follows Se-won around like her shadow. He suffers from Crohn’s disease, the cause of which is unknown, and Sewon cannot accurately express whether his stomach hurts or he is okay. Therefore, mother Song Hyeon personally checks Sewon’s bowel movements at least three times a day. Sewon needs her mother’s touch every moment.
“Crohn’s disease is caused by an inflammatory response in the intestines that lasts for a long time without knowing the cause. It causes abdominal pain, diarrhea, bloody stool, or weight loss, and if these continue for a long period of time, fatal complications such as intestinal perforation, abscess, or stricture may occur, making it a chronic, intractable disease that requires surgery. If you stop treatment, your life may be in jeopardy. In particular, there are research reports that show that if Crohn’s disease occurs at a young age, the life expectancy is lower than that of the general population.” – Doctor in charge
From epilepsy to Crohn’s disease, anal problems resulting from it, atopic dermatitis, and asthma… Sewon needs to take more than six medications every day, and he also needs to control his diet. In addition, the mold-filled living environment in the semi-basement house also poses a great threat to Sewon.
What kind of person is Sewon’s mother? – “Happy person”
“I hope nothing happens during the night after Sewon falls asleep… If I have a wish, I hope that Sewon lives a healthy and happy life while drawing..” – Mom
Song Hyeon, who raised Sewon alone and is responsible for his treatment and daily life, wanted to provide support so that Sewon could draw with peace of mind. Her mother, Song Hyeon, also underwent surgery for uterine cancer four years ago and is currently under follow-up. Se-won’s mother, Song Hyeon, always smiles brightly and copes bravely in front of Se-won because when her mother is anxious, Se-won feels even more anxious. As Song Hyeon wishes, we hope that you will share your warm hearts so that Sewon, an autistic artist, can overcome his incurable disease and be healthy so that he can freely draw the paintings he loves.
The ‘Nanum 0700’ episode ‘Autistic Painter, Sewon’s Dream’ will be broadcast on EBS1TV at 11:25 a.m. on Saturday, April 6.
