The section from Ionia Odos to Stefani is the first section of Preveza’s road connections, which is maturing and is expected to be financed with approximately 35 million euros from the NSRF of the Region of Epirus, according to the governor of Epirus, Alexandros Kahrimanis, who also announced the intention of the Region to prohibit the movement of vehicles over 5 tons on the national road of Preveza – Philippiadas on summer weekends.
The discussion about the road axes in Preveza took place on the occasion of the request of the “People’s Gathering” for the E.O. Preveza – Igoumenitsa, which the head Giorgos Prentzas described as cut-throat, asking for answers also about the intention of the Region and the ministry to build it with a concession, which means tolls for the passers-by.
Mr. Kahrimanis referred in detail to the actions taken by the Region of Epirus, also announcing that a new meeting with the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure N. Tahiao is imminent.
He stated that, according to the data of the traffic loads that have been collected, the axis Ionia Odos- Limbochovitis Junction- Fraxila Junction- Preveza will be constructed with a four-point cross-section, while the Fraxila Junction-Parga section will be constructed with a three-point cross-section. He also added that the junctions, which are already being built, are adapted to the future design, while he made special reference to the contribution of roundabouts to road safety. “Interchanges are a major element of a road network in terms of road safety and accessibility. Therefore, the priority promotion of studies and their construction is considered necessary for the immediate and drastic improvement of road safety along the road axis. We are talking about dead people on the railway line and no one is saying how many perished on these roads. That’s why we put the burden on the hubs”, he noted.
Finally, he announced that after Easter, the implementation of the measure banning the traffic of trucks over 5 tons on weekends and public holidays on the coastal road axis and on the E.O. Preveza – Philippiadas.
For tolls
He continues the efforts for “vindication” regarding the exemption of the residents of Ioannina and Thesprotia from the tolls of the Egnatia Road, for which there is a decision of the CoE but the Ministry of Infrastructure does not comply.
So far, three complaints have been made to the Ministry, as Mr. Kahrimanis mentioned, with no response, pointing out that he is willing to appeal even to the European Court of Justice.
Of course, the basis of the reasoning he testified concerns, as he noted, that there is a European directive according to which heavy vehicles pay either tolls or increased traffic fees, which does not apply in Greece. “You understand that we will have a battle on many points with the competent authorities throughout the ministries,” he said, without clarifying how the above rationale applies to passenger cars.
For Preveza’s VIPE
The regional council also answered the question of the “People’s Gathering” about the pollution in the Preveza Environmental Protection Agency. The deputy regional governor P.E. answered the question in detail. Preveza Stratos Ioannou, who underlined that the Regional Unit of Preveza has no responsibility for what is mentioned.
He added that ETVA VIPE SA is not responsible for the pollution, but any company that pollutes. He informed that the services of P.E. Preveza carried out inspections, which are ongoing, and compiled autopsy reports, but to date the company (or companies) that discharged sewage into the rainwater channel has not been identified. As he added, new samples have recently been taken, which have been sent for analysis and the results are expected within ten days.
