50 years ago, ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest with ‘Waterloo’: this is how the phenomenon was born

Waterloo, I was defeated, you won the war… It was with this simple and hummable chorus that ABBA made themselves known to the world, precisely 50 years ago. On April 6, 1974, just a few weeks after the Portuguese revolution, another, in pop, began to take its first steps, with the victory of the Swedish group in that year’s edition of the Eurovision festival. The Swedish flag was raised high at The Dome, in Brighton, which hosted the event.
