India’s IT sector job market has been in constant decline for the past few years. This year, the demand for entry-level employees i.e. brushers is likely to decrease further.

The news may come as a shock to college leavers with dreams of joining the IT industry. Most of the IT companies have decided to stop or reduce campus interviews this year.

While the number of new jobs in the IT sector has increased significantly in the last 6 months, opportunities for freshers continue to be limited. And the number of new jobs in the IT sector as a whole will show its true face only after the next few months.

In a recent interview, Ramani Dathi, Chief Financial Officer of TeamLease Services, a well-known recruitment company, said that the number of college student hires was relatively low last year.

Last year, IT companies stopped hiring experienced employees and invested heavily in training and development, hiring lower-paid freshers. This idea worked last year.

But Ramani Dathi said that the chances of press release will be less this year. The hiring of brushers will be lower than the trends of the last two years. “We are not clear whether it will be 50% less or 60% less, but definitely, the current market trends suggest that there will be a decrease in the number of college student hires this year as well,” warned Ramani Dathi.

At a time when there is an overwhelming demand in the market for employees with specialized skills like artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), Ramani Dathi urged pressurers to follow the shift towards this.

Despite the ongoing uncertainty in the IT services sector, employment in global growth centers remains, albeit at a slower pace. Voluntary skill development is essential to cope with the changing IT employment environment.

Also, the need for printers is decreasing in many places due to the automation of many tasks in the IT sector. As a result, there is a compulsion among IT companies that freshers should do the work of 2-year experienced employees.

Otherwise, they prefer to select talented candidates with interest in modern technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML). Even worse for startups is the current market situation.
