Gangjin-gun held the opening ceremony for the first Western Seaflower Spring Flower Festival. The splendid opening ceremony of the ‘Gangjin Western Sea Flower Spring Flower Festival’, which is being held for the first time in Gangjin-gun this year, was held at the Nammereuksa event hall on the 6th.

Gangjin-gun Mayor Kang Jin-won, Gangjin-gun Festival Promotion Committee Chairman Lee Ho-nam, Nammyeuksa Temple Chief Monk Beopheung, Gangjin-gun Council Chairman Kim Bomi, Gangjin Education Superintendent Lee Byeong-sam, and Gundong-myeon Regional Development Council Chairman Kim Geum-soo attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

After the cutting ceremony, a balloon-flying event was held to wish for the success of the festival, and about 200 balloons decorated the sky around the festival site. Afterwards, participants toured the trail and walked through the pink forest path of western seaweeds that had just begun to bloom.

Even though it was the first day of the festival, tourists gathered from all over the country from early in the morning, and the temporary parking lot was already full. However, parking information was provided in an orderly manner to the edge of the road, so the parking problem that was feared did not occur.

The tourists who entered the festival site were all mesmerized by the flowers and were busy taking pictures of their lives with their family, friends, and other companions, and also enjoyed a cup of tea with the pink garden as the scenery at the ‘Spring Flower Healing Cafeteria’.

Nammiruksa Temple, where the festival is held, attracts 2 million tourists every year with the beauty of the temple, including the largest brass Amitabha Buddha statue in Asia and the 500 Arhat statues, as well as the spectacle of 10,000 azalea trees that will be in full bloom in a month along with the Western Sea Dried Flower, and is already a tourist attraction. It has proven its worth as a resource.

At the Kkottonne tavern village located at the entrance of Nammereuksa Temple, the ‘Tamjinsa Women’s Association’ from Gundong-myeon welcomed tourists with simple local food, the Gundong-myeon Volunteer Fire Department was in charge of guiding the trail section, and 20 elders from Bongsan Village and Pungdong Village visited each day. Local residents showed their determination to make the festival a success by working together to improve the environment and clear congested sections of the village.

Gangjin-gun is holding about 10 large and small festivals and events this year to complete the ‘festival-tourism-regional economic revitalization package’ by including local tourism resources in the county’s official festivals and creating opportunities for local residents to participate.

Lee Ho-nam, Chairman of the Gangjin-gun Festival Promotion Committee, said, “Many tourists come to Nammereuksa Temple every spring, but there were not many ways for local residents to directly participate in the festival.” “By participating, we expect that not only will residents become closer together, but it will also have a positive impact on the local economy.”

County Governor Kang Jin-won said, “If we make use of local cultural tourism resources and make it a festival, and if more tourists come through the festival, that is the way to achieve ‘the development of Gangjin through a large influx of tourists.’ “I hope you can come and experience it for yourself,” he said.

The 1st Gangjin Western Wildflower Spring Flower Festival will welcome tourists for 9 days from the 6th to the 14th with the theme of ‘Pink Spring Smile’.
