Portuguese ask Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa for more intervention

by time news

It is a frequent criticism of the President of the Republic, the excess of comments on everything, but the Portuguese seem to want Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa to be more intervening, specifically, in the legislature that is now beginning. A survey for DN, JN and TSF, published this Saturday, shows that 62% want more participation from the President, who is becoming more popular again, against 30%, who preferred a less interventionist President.

Although there have never been so many Portuguese people (39%) with doubts about the evaluation of Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa’s performance, the truth is that 32% give him a positive rating and 25% a negative rating. For example, 58% respond that the President “did well in accepting and appointing a prime minister for a minority government”. Even more evident is the intervention in Madeira. The decision to dissolve the Legislative Assembly and call early elections was agreed by 62% of Portuguese people, only 5% disagreed and 2% were completely against.

The survey, carried out by Aximage, provides other relevant data. It is the Portuguese in the Democratic Alliance party segment (37 positive jump points) who allowed Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa to gain popularity, as, for the rest, the President remains ‘submerged’. And it is women who like Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa the most (14 positive jump points).

Only 9% want an agreement with the PS

Regarding the new Government, the vast majority (78%) of AD voters are in favor of having the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, lead an executive without a parliamentary majority. Still, 18% would like another solution and 9% point to an agreement with the PS.
