The smallest segment of the car market was left without another model. The Smart ForTwo has ceased production without leaving a natural successor for now.
Small city cars in Europe have always been the lifeblood of the market, but when the Smart arrived more than 25 years ago, the picture changed dramatically.
Although its development began in the early 1990s, the Smart ForTwo made its debut at the 1998 Paris Motor Show and could not have gone unnoticed. Despite its size, at only 2.5 meters long, it was a concept full of logic, practicality and functionality. A car was born that promised to make traffic jams and parking problems a thing of the past.
The first generation of the ForTwo model was more than successful, so Smart, which was then controlled by the Daimler Group, decided to offer a second model, the Smart ForFour. It was the same concept, just with more doors and more seats.
During these more than 25 years of commercial life, the ForTwo was presented in three different generations, the last of which was launched in 2014 with significant changes in design and size, growing to 2.69 meters.
The future of Smart is Chinese with all-electric variants.
