In Metsovo this year the European Wool Day is celebrated (which is held every year on April 9 in a different European country under the auspices of the European Wool Exchange (EWE) Foundation.


The EWE Foundation ( is a charitable foundation, founded in Cyprus, with the aim of better coordinating many collectives in Europe, who are interested in the circular economy of wool, so that wool can regain its rightful place as a valuable asset for society , as today it is considered organic waste.
As part of the European Wool Day 2024 Celebration, entitled “Wool’s New Roads to a Sustainable Future”, we will celebrate wool in our region on April 6, 7 and 9 in Metsovo, with visitors from both Greece and as well as from other European countries. There will be a series of activities such as in-situ workshops for young and old in collaboration with “The Pokari Project”, artisans and artists from Europe, exhibitions and a round table discussion focusing on sheep’s wool and its re-evaluation in Greece and the Europe.
The European Wool Day on April 9, which will take place at the Metsovio Center for Interdisciplinary Research (ME.K.DE), includes, as every year, a series of videos in live broadcast (at the link) from institutions all over Europe. they deal with sheep’s wool, with a special tribute to Greece, which this year is the organizing country.
“The holding of the European Wool Day in Greece gives us the opportunity to highlight the people and institutions, which from the past until today contribute to the preservation of the tradition and the promotion of sheep’s wool throughout Greece. The purpose of the celebration is to highlight the characteristics and dynamics of local wool which can contribute to the development of sustainable industries. “Wool can and must redefine its role in the economy and prosperity of Europe”, the Ecomuseum of Zagori and the “Egnatia Epirus” Foundation, which co-organize the events with the Region of Epirus and the Naturalist and Cultural Association of Metsovo, state in their joint statement “Aminzio”.
