The Regional Fire Administration of Epirus draws the attention of the citizens, on the occasion of the increased number of forest and agroforestry fires, which occur during the burning of plant matter and crop residues, making it known that extensive checks and patrols are being carried out to verify compliance with the prescribed measures.


The fire services, in view of the start of the fire season, call on citizens to take all the necessary measures and means of fire protection, as provided for in the fire order regarding actions, activities and work in the countryside, concerning the lighting, maintenance and use of fire , the performance of hot work, the use of devices that cause sparks, the use of pyrotechnics or lighters, the placement, storage, disposal or abandonment of flammable materials or substances, waste, bulky objects, other combustible materials, etc. It is noted that in the event of non-observance of the provision, administrative fines are provided.
For the burning of plant matter and crop residues until April 30, those interested should contact the local Fire Services, so that they are informed of the weather conditions that will prevail, as well as for further information. In any case, all necessary measures and means of fire protection must be observed.

Furthermore, the Fire Administration notes that with the Fire Order no. 20/2023, (Government Gazette B’ 2549) the preventive measures for fire protection of plots and other uncovered areas, located in areas within approved landscaping plans, within the boundaries of settlements without an approved landscaping plan, in areas located within a radius of 100 m from the boundaries are determined of the above areas, as well as in off-plan pitches with buildings.
Cleaning includes felling and removal of dry and broken trees and branches, as well as branches that are in direct contact with buildings, removal of combustible plant material on the surface of the ground such as leaf litter, dry grasses and underlying dry branches , branching of the base of the tree crown and increasing its starting height from the ground surface, depending on the age and species of the tree, thinning of the shrubby vegetation in terms of ground cover, removal of any other abandoned burning, flammable, explosive or flammable materials, objects and waste and safe collection and transport of all cleaning residues.
