The long awaited astronomical phenomenon arrived to amaze everyone this Monday, April 8. Allowing us to be part of an event that happens twice a year, but is not always visible in all countries.

In this note we tell you how this phenomenon was experienced in Guatemala and other places in the world such as Torreón Coahuila or Dallas Texas, where the Moon completely blocks it and they were able to appreciate it, both in total as partial.

Solar eclipse of April 2024 in Guatemala

In our country it could be observed partially. Guatemalans gathered at the Relief Map, located in Zone 2 of Guatemala City, to enjoy different activities related to the astronomical phenomenon.

From observation through professional telescopes, to a live broadcast through the screen. People were able to see how the moon covered a part of the solar disk with its shadow, creating a unique celestial spectacle.

In Guatemala it began at approximately 11:09 a.m. and had its peak around 12 p.m., at this time the Moon covered 48% of the Sun, which made the sky look a little cloudy.

EGuatemalan photographer David Rojas He also shared images of the phenomenon in the country. The first image was captured at 11:19 a.m., a few minutes after it started. The second photo was taken at 12:20, when it reached its peak. In the third you can see the sequence from before it started until it reached the coverage limit in our country.

For the US, this event was very special, since one can be seen again until 2045. These are some postcards captured outside the country:

Due to its trajectory, it is unlikely that it can be seen in Guatemala. It is not until 2029 when Central America and North America will experience a partial one.

However, on September 18 a partial lunar eclipse will occur, this will be visible in Guatemala. So get ready to enjoy it! This month also brings other impressive astronomical events.
