16 out of 40 medical schools nationwide have resumed classes, but classrooms are still empty with students who have not returned.
The Ministry of Education earnestly appealed for the return of students, saying that if students continue to not return even after classes resume, greater damage may occur in the long term.

There are a total of 23 universities scheduled to resume classes next week. Soonchunhyang University is the only university that has not yet set a schedule for the resumption of classes.
There are currently more universities offering first-year pre-med classes.

Oh Seok-hwan, Vice Minister of Education, said, “In order to reflect diverse student opinions and create conditions for actual participation in classes, universities will conduct classes non-face-to-face for a certain period of time, and when conditions for normalization are established, normal classes will be held in various ways.”
Regarding the actual class participation rate of students at each university, Vice Minister Oh explained, “Because the academic schedule is different for each grade and school, it is managed entirely according to the school’s circumstances and passport.”
Regarding concerns that the quality of classes may decline in relation to the fact that many universities are conducting classes online, he said, “Classes are being conducted in a variety of ways rather than the traditional way,” and “They are being conducted in a way that is tailored to the conditions and students. (Class video) E) Even if you only download it, the quality does not decrease.”
In response to students’ concerns about group repeating a grade, he emphasized, “If a group repeating a grade is done, an unimaginable level of education will be achieved, and it will continue to become difficult, so we will do our best to prevent (grade repeating) from occurring.”
Regarding the ‘deadline’ for group retention by school, he said, “It is difficult to say when it is uniformly, but based on the university’s judgment and the current situation, there is not much time left.”
Vice Minister Oh emphasized, “I heard that there are voices (from students) who want to take classes,” and “Now, there are students who want to participate, so we will make efforts to prevent differences between students from appearing and their right to learning to be violated.”
In addition, the Ministry of Education once again established that ‘allied leave of absence’ is not a reason for leave of absence. Vice Minister Oh said, “We make it clear that group leave of absence is not a reason for leave recognized by relevant laws,” and added, “We will work together with universities to normalize the academic schedule and prevent group repeats (of students).”
Vice Minister Oh said, “I am grateful to the medical school professors and university officials who work hard for the students even in difficult situations, and the Ministry of Education will continue to communicate and support for the normal operation of medical education.”
Meanwhile, as of the 8th, the number of applications for effective leave of absence from 40 medical schools was 2 students from 2 schools, with a total of 10,377 students (55.2% of the total) applying for leave of absence.
