As part of the European Arts and Crafts Days (EACD) initiative, a number of events dedicated to the intangible cultural heritage of Azerbaijan were held during the week, Day.Az reports.
The events were organized by the NGO Arts Council Azerbaijan together with World Crafts Council Europe with the support of NUR Art House and the Baku Ceramics Center.
A series of events within the framework of the European Days of Artistic Crafts was opened by an exhibition whose task is to popularize the art and rich cultural heritage of Azerbaijan, the ancient traditions of the people. The exhibition included carpets, copper utensils, paintings, ceramics, and Azerbaijani women’s headdress – kelagai.
Then several master classes on ceramics took place, conducted by the famous ceramic artist Mir-Teymur Mamedov. During the classes, he shared his knowledge and experience with the participants, helping them create unique works of art.
At the end, a charity exhibition-fair of children’s works was organized. The curator of the exhibition was Suraya Mammadli, a student of the general education complex 132-134.
The exhibition-fair presented the works of talented students of the capital’s schools, students of the Center for Vocational Rehabilitation for Persons with Disabilities of the Social Services Agency under the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population, as well as the work of Adnan Hasanzadeh, who suffers from Down syndrome.
Part of the proceeds from the sale of works is directed to charity.
There was also a display of works by Anna Rain, a girl with autism spectrum disorder. The exhibition provided an opportunity for the young artist to showcase her talent and share her work with the public, promoting an important dialogue about diversity in the arts and society as a whole.
According to the representative of the World Crafts Council Europe in Azerbaijan, Sona Guliyeva, the event within the framework of the European Days of Artistic Crafts is being held in Azerbaijan for the second time.
“Traditionally, at the beginning of spring, as part of the European Crafts Days, events are held at the same time in different European countries. Each member country of the World Crafts Council Europe annually organizes an event dedicated to crafts for a week,” she emphasized .
The head of the NGO Arts Council Azerbaijan Dadash Mamedov recalled that the European Days of Artistic Crafts were established in 2002.
“In our short period of membership in the World Crafts Council Europe, we have held many events and this has given us the opportunity to showcase our culture and art abroad,” he added.
Dadash Mamedov expressed gratitude to the head of the NUR Art House gallery, Roya Tagiyeva, and the head of the Ceramics Center, Mir-Teymur Mamedov, for their support in holding the events.
It should be noted that the Days of Artistic Crafts were established in 2002. Since 2012 they are called European Artistic Crafts Days (EACD). They were organized by the National Institute of Arts (INMA) and were the first international event dedicated to crafts, held every year in early spring.
Craft studios open their doors to the public, and craftsmen, educational institutions and museums hold outdoor exhibitions. More than 20 countries are participating in the EACD 2024.
