The talented young Azerbaijani opera singer Elmina Hasanova made her debut in France with one of the greatest tenors of our time, Spanish vocalist Placido Domingo, the Association Dialogue France-Azerbaijan (ADFA) told Day.Az.
The performance took place on the stage of the theater and concert hall in Paris – Salle Gaveau Paris in the opera “Nabucco” by the great Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi, in which Elmina Hasanova performed the role of Fenena, the daughter of Nebuchadnezzar (Nabucco). Placido Domingo performed the role of the Babylonian king Nabucco. The famous Italian musician Leonardo Sini was at the conductor’s stand. The performance also featured artists from Italy, France, Croatia and Russia.
Elmina Hasanova is a mezzo-soprano, a graduate of the Department of Solo Singing and Opera Training at the Baku Music Academy named after Uzeyir Hajibeyli. Winner of the Grand Prix of the VIII International Vocal Competition named after Bulbul 2022, laureate of international competitions. Since 2023, she has been participating in the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program. 15 opera singers from different countries were selected for the program, who will be involved in performances at the Metropolitan Opera throughout 2023/2024.
“Nabucco” or “Nebuchadnezzar” is an opera by Giuseppe Verdi with a libretto by Temistocle Soler, based on events described in the Bible. The premiere took place on March 9, 1842 at La Scala in Milan.
The plot of the opera takes place in 576 BC. e. The work is based on the biblical epic and real historical events. During the siege of the city, residents gather in the Temple of Solomon, where the chief priest convinces them of a favorable outcome of the siege, since the daughter of the king of Nabucco, Fenena, who is there, is a hostage. The author describes the history of the relationship between the captive commander and the daughter of the Babylonian king Nabucco, which developed long before the start of hostility between peoples. The storyline is built on a complex interweaving of relationships between the royal daughter, the military leader Ishmael and the adopted daughter of the ruler of Babylon Abigail… The formation of the main characters, their path through torment and repentance from paganism to the true faith. At the same time, the Babylonian ruler Nebuchadnezzar praises the god of war Baal. He is cruel and knows no mercy. A great warrior, he conquers the Jews, but retribution overtakes him…
