The Azerbaijan Republic Cinema Agency (ARKA) under the Ministry of Culture has established the Alternative Cinema Academy (Alternativ Kino Akademiyası) to support young filmmakers. According to the corresponding order of the head of ARKA Orhan Fikretoglu, Honored Artist, film director Elkhan Jafarov became the curator of the academy, the agency reported to Day.Az.
At the first event of the Academy of Alternative Cinema at the Nizami Cinema Center, 7 out of 16 student projects of the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts were presented.
Among the works are short feature films and documentaries – “Salaam to Allah” by Khayal Rza, “The 32nd Day of Surayya” by Shirin Akhmedova, “The Uninvited Guest” by Mirhafiz Hasanov, “I’m Back” by Muhammad Mamedov, “Fallen Angel” by Elmar Farzaliev, “Second Wind” Araz Guliyeva and “Vera” Mirzakhid Agayev.
The main goal of creating the Academy of Alternative Cinema is to stimulate student filmmakers to creative activity and create new content in cinema. To achieve these goals, administrative and creative tasks will be improved, including for participation in national and international festivals, steps will be taken to improve the quality of content and create modern trends in national cinema, research will be conducted in the field of world cinema, etc.
