Date 15 of the BetPlay I-2024 League had a duel between the two worst teams of the season: Patriotas Boyacá received Alianza FC in Tunja, last and penultimate in the standings with 13 and 12 points respectively. The locals, with 9 losses in the championship, were better during the first 45 minutes and deserved to go ahead on the scoreboard.
The clearest one for Harold Rivera’s team was from the penalty spot. Santiago Roa suffered a foul from Cristian Blanco and the referee gave the penalty. Cristian Martínez Borja took it, but the shot was saved by goalkeeper Carlos Mosquera.
Alianza did not have a good time in that first half, they spent most of the time in their field, with a low block armed with two lines of 4. Their forward men were Sherman Cárdenas as a playmaker and Ruyery Blanco. Zero approaches to the goal defended by Juan David Valencia.
For the second half the visitors loosened up a little thanks to the entry of Royscer Colpa and Marlon Torres from the start, they replaced Sherman and Johan Parra. At 62 minutes the clearest one came for Alianza. The ball hit the back of the right back to exploit the speed of Sebastián Acosta, he reached the area and defined the goalkeeper with a left footed tunnel. The VAR intervened to look at a possible foul at the beginning of the action and this goal play ended up being annulled.
Patriotas took control of the game again in the last 10 minutes and almost won it in the 89th minute with a bitten shot by Iván Rivas in the six-yard box. The ball went to the center of the goal and goalkeeper Mosquera prevented the goal with his palms. In added time there was a possible handball in the area by Alfonso Simarra, the referee saw it on the VAR, but did not whistle it. His decision was to end the game. The local players protested the decision, but there was nothing more to do. The game ended 0-0 on this date 15.
On matchday 16, to be played next weekend, Patriotas will play against Chicó and Alianza will host Equidad in Valledupar. The Boyacenses are still in the direct relegation zone.
