Goiás – 26-year-old trancista Thais Medeiros de Oliveira, who had a severe allergic reaction after smelling a jar of pepper, was admitted to a hospital in Goiânia again. The information was released last Saturday, 6th, on the young woman’s social network, managed by the family.
“She had an incident, her blood pressure started to drop a lot, she was sweating a lot, and the doctors thought it was best to bring her to the hospital”, explained Sérgio Alves, Thaís’ stepfather.
This Sunday, the 7th, the family reported that Thais has no fever. She continues to be monitored by the medical team at the Dr. Henrique Santillo State Center for Rehabilitation and Readaptation, in Goiânia. “She was very weak today, lowered, very weak,” said her stepfather.
Remember the case
In February 2023, Thais was having lunch at her boyfriend’s house, Matheus Lopes de Oliveira, in Anápolis (GO), when she smelled pickled goat pepper and had an allergic reaction.
Matheus’s mother, Sandra, said that everyone was talking about the peppers, at which point she picked up the bottle of pepper, smelled it, then her daughter, her husband and Thais.
“She didn’t taste it, she just smelled it. As soon as she smelled the pepper, she said it was scratching her throat. I dropped my plate and went after her. It wasn’t 3 minutes,” he said.
Asthmatic, she had shortness of breath and had to be rushed to the hospital. Arriving at the scene, Thais needed to be revived by doctors.
At the time, she no longer had neurological responses and was placed on mechanical ventilation. Thais spent 20 days in an ICU.
She then spent more than five months in a hospital unit. The diagnosis was cerebral edema, with irreversible damage. She was discharged in September of the same year and was able to spend her birthday at home, but the treatments continue.
