A day later, Eid-ul-Fitr is one of the most religious events of Muslims. However, on the eve of Eid, there is no passenger pressure at Gabtali, one of the busiest terminals in the country. On the seventh day of the Eid journey, as usual there is a rush of passengers.
Those concerned say that since the Eid holiday has already started, the workers have already returned home. So people are not under much pressure to return home today. This time, the holiday of the government employees for the holy Eid-ul-Fitr and Bengali New Year has started from April 10. And the office will open on April 15. However, many people are spending 10 consecutive days of Eid holiday with a two-day holiday on April 8 and 9. They have already gone home.
On Wednesday (April 10) at the Gabtali inter-district bus terminal, transport workers were seen spending idle time at the counters. Many buses are parked at the terminal. And the few vehicles that are plying, have been seen charging some extra fare.
Transport officials say that buses are leaving full of passengers at certain times. When a passenger alights at Gabtali station, the transport workers scream. Dragging someone to the counter. As the Eid holiday is long, people have gone to the village earlier this time. Passengers have to pay extra fare even if they get the bus at a certain time. And coming to Gabtali from different parts of the city has to ‘Bakshis Birambana’.
The counter manager of Sakura Paribahan denied the complaints of the passengers and said that there is no opportunity to keep the fare higher. BRTA, police, media are all there. I am not keeping a single rupee more. He told less passengers at the counter and said that 8 cars left in the morning. All are full of passengers. There are 2 more cars at noon. They have no standing tickets.
He said, we go to the districts of Barisal division. After the Padma Bridge, our passengers have reduced.
Mizanur Rahman, counter manager of Seba Paribahan going to Gopalganj said, we have 2-3 buses in the afternoon. A few seats in the bus are still unsold. This time since the long vacation passengers have already gone home. As there were no extra passengers, we could not drop any new buses out of the trip.
Incidentally, tomorrow Thursday (April 11) the holy Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated in the country.
