The EU has switched to daily net injection of underground gas storage facilities (UGS), reserves in them remain a record for the end of March for the entire period of observation – since 2011, follows from data from the Association of Gas Infrastructure Operators of Europe (Gas Infrastructure Europe, GIE), Day reports. The occupancy of European gas storage facilities increased by 0.03 percentage points (pp), net injection per day amounted to slightly more than 30 million cubic meters. Germany (0.05 p.p.), France (0.2 p.p.), and Italy (0.04 p.p.) pumped the most gas into storage facilities.

The transition to daily net injection was recorded as early as March 23, but then European countries again switched to net withdrawal.

The heating season in Europe ends at the end of March – beginning of April. The fullness of European gas storage facilities is 58.77%. This is by 17.1 p.p. more than the average for this date in 2019-2023, and by 3.1 p.p. more than last year.

In physical terms, the total volume of gas in storage is about 65.1 billion cubic meters. This is about 19.7 billion cubic meters more than the average for this date in the previous five years, and 4.3 billion more than last year. Gas reserves in Europe remain at record levels at the end of March. Over the entire period of observation – since 2011 – slightly smaller volumes were recorded in the warm year 2023 and the “Covid” year 2020.

The filling level of gas storage facilities since the beginning of the withdrawal season – the first ten days of November – has decreased by 40.8 percentage points to date. European consumers have chosen about 45.2 billion cubic meters of gas in almost five months. The occupancy of underground gas storage facilities decreased by almost 8 billion cubic meters in February, and by approximately 3.9 billion in partial March.
