Five more defendants received fines for not appearing at the sessions of the case of the riots near the Seimas

The defendants Dmitriy Kovaliov, Almantas Bimba, Žydrūnas Kamarov, Vygantas Petkas and Dominyks Shcheglovs have been fined for not attending the court hearings on March 26 and 27, court representative Giedrius Janonis informed Elta on Wednesday.

Some defendants are fined not for the first time.

For example, the defendant A. Bimba was already fined 300 euros for not attending the court hearings on March 19 and 20.

The defendant D. Ščeglov was fined 300 euros for not attending the hearings on February 27-28.

Accused persons who do not appear in court without a justifiable reason are constantly punished, at each hearing the panel announces the fines imposed on the accused who do not appear at the hearings.

At the moment, the witnesses of the case are being questioned during the hearings – representatives of the Public Security Service (PSS), policemen, journalists, photographers and cameramen who recorded the events near the Seimas.

ELTA reminds that in 2021 in the case of the riots near the Seimas, 87 persons have been charged – mainly for participating in the riots, resisting the police or other persons performing public administration functions, provoking public violence, destroying property or otherwise grossly violating public order. One person has been charged with organizing riots and public calls to publicly violate the sovereignty of the Republic of Lithuania.

Among the defendants are Antanas Kandrotas, nicknamed Celofanas, who has previously been convicted and has repeatedly participated in various protests, as well as A. Lobovs, who has repeatedly participated in protest actions, Astra Genovaitė Astrauskaitė, a teacher dismissed from the Vilnius “Juventa” gymnasium, and Arnoldas Misiūnas, a representative of combat sports.

As previously announced by law enforcement, the criminal case consists of 136 volumes. In this case, 27 persons were recognized as victims, of which even 23 are police and Public Security Service (PSS) officers. Four victims filed civil lawsuits for non-pecuniary damages totaling 24.5 thousand. for the amount of euros.

In this case, civil lawsuits for compensation of property damage (for a total amount of 92.6 thousand euros) were filed by the Vilnius Territorial Hospital Fund, the Vilnius Branch of the State Social Insurance Fund Board, the Chancellery of the Seimas, the Chief Police Commissariat of Vilnius County and the VST.

in 2021 August 10 since morning, the protest against the COVID-19 restrictions outside the Seimas turned into a riot. After the demonstrators blocked the entrances to the Seimas, the VST and riot police forces used tear gas and physical force against the protesters.
