The marathon in Bulgaria starts this weekend in Veliko Tarnovo. The “Tarnovo Ultra” 2024 competition kicks off the season, with a record number of participants – nearly 2,000. The event gathers in the old capital city some of the best Bulgarian trail running, mountain biking and orienteering competitors, the municipality announced.
Among the prominent runners are Valentin Shishkov, Kristina Ivanova, Shaban Mustafa, Stefan Yordanov, Petar Ivanov, Georgi Zhekov and Kiril Nikolov-Dizela. Among the cyclists, Tsvetan Ivanov, Bogdan Stoychev, Boyko Tanchev, Petar Chavdarov, Emil Stoynev and others stand out.
Runners and MTB-cyclists will test their strength on picturesque routes, including the Old Town, the Tsarevets fortress, the “Asenov” quarter with its medieval churches, “Garga Bair”, Arbanasi, “Sveta Gora” park and “Boruna” park, etc.
The start for cyclists is at 11:45. on Saturday /April 13/ on “Hristo Botev” Street – at the foot of the “Mother Bulgaria” monument.
The running race will start from the arch on “Nezavisimost” Street at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday /April 14/, announced the organizers Ivan Dimitrov and Ivan Sirakov. The finals will be in front of the “Boris Denev” Art Gallery and the Asenevtsi monument.
There are two destinations for cyclists – 33 and 60 km. There are four distances for the runners, the shortest is 14 km and the longest is 51 km.
“Tarnovo Ultra” is organized by the Sports Club “Brown Team” with the support of the Municipality of Veliko Tarnovo.
