The European Police Agency (Europol) has identified more than 800 criminal gangs that pose a serious threat to the European Union. This is stated in the organization’s report, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

Data received from all Europol states allowed the mapping and analysis of the actions of attackers at the European level. This is the first report of its kind to cover all areas of illegal activity, including human, drug and arms trafficking, tax crimes and money laundering.

In total, experts identified 821 criminal organizations, which include 25 thousand people of 112 different nationalities. About half of them are involved in drug trafficking. In particular, 113 groups are involved primarily in the cocaine trade, and another 44 are involved in the marijuana trade. More than 100 organizations are involved in illegal trafficking of various types of drugs.

Almost two thirds of criminal gangs consist of representatives of different nationalities. According to Europol, various reasons prompt them to operate together. Sometimes we are talking about regional interaction, in some cases one nationality is dominant, and attackers of other nationalities join it.

Several times the report refers to Russians who, according to the European Police Agency, are actively involved in human trafficking for the purpose of labor exploitation and organizing cyber attacks.
