Thousands filled the mosques in Kardzhaliysko on the first day of the great Muslim holiday of Ramadan Bayram. The festive prayer in the new mosque in the Kardzhali district “Prileptsi”, which is the largest in the district, was led by the district mufti Basri Eminefendi. Among those who took part in the holiday prayer were the co-chairman of DPS Jevdet Chakarov, the mayor of Kardzhali Erol Myumyun, deputies.
The temple could not accommodate all the worshipers and some of them had to pray in the courtyard. Because of the holiday, in recent days Kardzhali has been filled with a large number of local people who live in Turkey or in Western Europe.
Ramadan Bayram is the biggest holiday for Muslims and is celebrated with family. Traditionally, younger people visit their older relatives and ask for forgiveness. The holiday is also called Sheker Bairam, because traditionally baklava and other sweets are consumed on the holiday.
